OIL WORKSHOPS
  • PAINTS - There is quite a variety of oil paint brands on the market and I am not particularly fussy about which brand you purchase except for recommending that you purchase artist quality tubes and steer clear of the 'student' quality. Almost all brands have both so be careful to read the labels. The difference is in the lightfastness of the product. You don't want to paint a painting that will fade, or change colour over the next six months.
Having said that, the colours I recommend for our workshops are as follows:
Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Lemon Yellow, Cadminium Yellow Deep, Cadminium Red, Red Violet or Alizarin Crimson, Flesh
Flesh Tint Deep, Viridian Green, Australian Green Gold, Lamp Black, Titanium White, Burnt Sienna & Lilac.
  •  MEDIUM - Liquin
  •  BRUSHES - Personally I like to use the acrylic soft flat brushes, but the brushes you are used to (bristle etc) as long as they are in good condition. You will need quite a few to use through the day as turps to clean is not allowed in the studio. Some students have allergic reactions to turps.
  •  PALLET - I use a glass pallet, but I understand that this may be difficult to transport to the workshop everyday so I will leave that to your choosing. Some other examples could be dinner plates or disposable paper pallets.
  •  CANVAS - Canvas stretcher or canvas board.
If you are painting a portrait your canvas needs to be 45 x 55 cm (18" x 20") or close.
If you are painting a landscape/marinescape or other your canvas size will need to suit the composition. If you are having             trouble deciding on what size to use you can bring in a few choices to discuss with me.
  • LIVE MODELS/PHOTOS - Some workshops will have live models and some workshops will need you to bring a photo to paint from.
    You will also need:
        Tissues, rags & wet ones.
    Easels Supplied.

WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOPS
  • PAINTS - There is quite a variety of watercolour paint brands on the market and I am not particularly fussy about which brand you purchase except for recommending that you purchase artist quality tubes and steer clear of the 'student' quality. Almost all brands have both so be careful to read the labels. The difference is in the lightfastness of the product. You don't want to paint a painting that will fade, or change colour over the next six months.
Having said that, the colours I recommend for our workshops are as follows:
Ultramarine Blue, Cerealean Blue, Cobalt Blue, Lemon Yellow, Australian Red Gold, Cadminium Red, Red Violet or Alizarin                  Crimson, Viridian Green & Burnt Sienna.
  • BRUSHES - Mop Brushes a selection of different sizes and taklon brushes sizes 4, 6 & 10. Mops can be expensive if you go for the top of the range squirel but there are some cheaper makes on the market that are quite satisfactory. Taklon brushes can be found at Bunnings or Spotlight or various art supplies stores.
  • PALLET - I use a large lidded plastic pallet.
  • PAPER - 300gsm medium Arche or Saunders.
    You will also need:
Tissues, water container, fine water spray bottle, masking tape & a board to attach your paper.
